Eagles Don’t Quit

About two and a half years ago, Eagles co-founder Glenn Frey died from complications from a variety of illnesses which culminated in a severe bout of pneumonia from which he would never recover.

In the aftermath of his passing his fellow band mate and lifelong friend Don Henley, announced that this would be the end of the Eagles. He pondered how it would be possible for the band to continue after the loss of Frey, whom had been such an integral part of the band.

This was not unfamiliar territory for this band. In 1975 just 4 years into their meteoric careers, lead guitarist Bernie Leadon left the group. At that time, the answer to the opportunity was a wonderfully successful guitarist named Joe Walsh. Walsh (born in 1947) had enjoyed great success prior to joining the Eagles. And, has been an anchor since joining the band in 75.

Fast forward to January 2016. And, the passing of Frey. Henley’s assertion that the band could not continue was premature at best. You see, that in the wings was an unknown (to the public) singer, who was well known to the band. In fact, he possessed the DNA of Eagle royalty. His name is Deacon Frey. Son of Glenn.

This past Friday, as I sat there with my wife watching what can only be described as a concert reminiscent of the best of times in the Eagles storied history, on stage singing in his father’s place was young Deacon. His voice eerily matched in pitch and tone, that of his legendary father.

I tell you this because it illustrates clearly, how important it is when faced with certain defeat, or the threat of failure, just how important it is to continue on.

As our industry continues to evolve. And, our market once again shifts, it is my hope that you remember this story. And, take a moment to reflect on the situation at hand. And, instead of focusing on the challenge you face, concentrate on the opportunities that will surely surround you. Through which you will find the answers that allow you to continue to move forward.
